Unknown process, unknown outcome
To address originality in architecture, we must ask ourselves not only how we define originality, but how we define architecture itself. In a profession moving further away from physical artefacts, concepts of originality are heading towards an unknown paradigm.
As the thought process of architecture is generic, applicable, creative and yet critical, anyone who is trained in the practice has an increasing potential to prosper in and redefine other fields. So how does this effect modern or future ideas of originality in architecture, when it is no longer restricted by architectural pragmatics? Do we stay optimistic and claim originality in these new interactions? Or strive for more? (Sacha Hickinbotham)
